Toyota 2JZ-GTE
The 2JZ-GTE was first produced in 1992 as a successor to Toyota's popular 1JZ line. The twin turbo, side mounted intercooler engine was originally intended for use in the Toyota Aristo (the North American Lexus GS 300) but could also be found in Toyota's Supra JZA80. The engine was said to have an maximum power rating of 280 hp at 5600 rpm. The real figures were much higher but could not be open advertised due to the "Gentleman's Agreement" between Japanese automakers of the time. The engine's North American counterpart was able to produce 310 hp due to its stainless steel (instead of ceramic) turbo chargers, camshafts and larger injectors.

The engine is a popular choice for car enthusiests because it was fairly common in Japan making it a relatively affordable engine to import. Also, with few modifications to the engine's auxiliary parts, the power rating of the motor could easily be increased. The engine is also considered a rival for Nissan's RB26DETT (used in Nissan's Skyline GT-R models) at almost half the price. Both engines are reknowned for their flexibility, reliability, and aftermarket potential.

Built on a solid history and possessing great potential, the 2JZ-GTE is an excellent alternative to the Nissan RB26DETT.
