IMPORT SPECIALISTS: NISSAN 240SX (S13)
Based on the JDM 180sx, the 240sx shared a lot of commonalities with its Japanese brother but was designed for a North American audience. The car was first intrduced in 1989 and replaced the rear wheel drive 200sx (not to be confused with the front wheel drive 200sx re-introduced in 1995). The 240sx was equiped with a more powerful 2.4-litre inline 4 engine than the Japanese 180sx but shared the same look and chassis (based on the Nissan S Platform). The 240sx models can be broken down into two generations: the S13 and the S14. The first generation S13 models ran from 1989 to 1994 and were powered by Nissan's KA24E engine. The second generation S14 models ran from 1995 to 1998 and used Nissan's KA24DE engine.
Many popular modifications are common to this car. When it was first released, the car was touted as being underpowered, thus many car enthusiests start by modifying its engine. The body of the 240sx is lightweight and durable and capable of supporting many different engines with relatively little modification. The stock KA24E engine was considered durable but heavy with weak power output, yet the iron-block unit could handle turbocharging: a popular solution for many 240 owners. Other owners opt to swap the engine for I-4 SR20DET, I-4 CA18DET, I-6 RB series, Nissan V-8 VH45DE, or V-6 VQ35DE engines.
Other popular modifications usually involve swaping body parts for thier JDM counter parts. Sub categories such as the Sileighty have become more common over the years.
In the end, the reason for this car's popularity comes from its superb handling, classic styling, and many different modification options.
